About
I am a lecturer in the Department of Arabic at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. At Bar-Ilan, I teach undergraduate and graduate courses on Quran, Islamic traditionalism and rationalism, and classical Arabic poetry.
In 2004, I received my Ph.D. in Arabic, with a specialization in Islamic theology from Bar-Ilan University.
I specialize in the following fields:
• Medieval Islamic Theology (mainly Hanbali and Ash'ari).
• Classical Arabic Poetry (from the 6th to the 15th centuries).
• Qur'an and Hadith exegesis (from the 8th to the 15th centuries).
Currently I focus on three research topics:
• Modes and patterns of argumentation in the theological writings of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (d. 1350), an important Hanbali theologian, who has not received much attention in modern research.
• Anthropomorphism in traditionalist Islam (from the 8th to the 14th centuries).
• Didactic poetry in the Mamluk Sultanate (from the 14th to the 15th centuries).
